Are Rolex Watches Going up in Value in 2022?

February 4th, 2022

The New Year started with a bang! The price for Rolex watches have increased. The luxury watch brand, as you know, has an annual price correction. And, to everyone’s surprise, Rolex significantly increased its price range on a few selected watches on New Year’s Day. Good or bad, but the news has undoubtedly shocked the watch aficionados.

For someone trying to sell Rolex, this is indeed a great time to fetch an excellent market value. Those folks, who have been saving up every penny to own an Oyster Perpetual or a Submariner, things are going to get a little heavier on your pocket.

Of course, we all are used to seeing the Rolex prices soar over the years, but now it seems it wasn’t enough. But what is the reason behind this?

With demand skyrocketing and specific Rolex timepieces hard to find, it only makes sense, isn’t it? The manufacturer wants to capitalise, which is the rightful reason behind this major step. Amidst all the chaos, what is comparatively new is the current demand that Rolex has in the pre-owned market.

According to various reports, a little less than ten years back, the demand for Rolex in the pre-owned market was about 25-40% below the retail price. The percentage has significantly leapt in 2022, with buyers willing to offer almost double the original value on selected references.

11 Rolex Model Prices To Increase In 2022

1. Cosmograph Daytona

Thankfully, the prices of all the chronographs aren’t affected. However, the value of the steel models has surged by over 10 per cent, with the remaining collection witnessing an increase of 2.5-3 per cent. The platinum models have remained unchanged.

2. DeepSea & Sea-Dweller

All the Deep Sea and Sea-Dweller models have been affected, with the prices increasing by 10 per cent. Out of the lot, it is the Sea-Dweller Rolesor, 43mm, which has seen a minor update.

3. GMT-Master II

Another collection that abides by the trend is the Rolex GMT-Master II. Both the GMT-Master II models, Pepsi & Batman/Batgirl, have seen an increase of 11 per cent. Surprisingly, the high-end models made of precious elements have a slight increase of 3-4 per cent.

4. Explorer II & Explorer 36

If you’re someone who had invested in the newer models of the Explorer lineup, you have bagged a deal! The 36mm Explorer model and the Explorer II are now up by almost 10 per cent. However, the Explorer Ref. 124273 has increased by only 1.9 per cent.

5. Milgauss & Air-King

There’s news to those who neglected the less mighty editions of Milgauss and Air-King. Both the prices have seen a steep increase from 9.6 to 11.6 per cent.

6. Yacht-Master

This is perhaps the least affected collection of all, with the prices of the Yacht-Master collection witnessing an increase of 2.5-3 per cent (including the stainless steel models).

7. Day-Date 36 & 40

Both the watches are available in precious metals and stick to the trend and see a price increase of approximately 2.5 per cent.

This is how Rolex has started the New Year on a ‘Happy’ Note!

Additionally, the report has it that Rolex is well on its way to following a particular trend in 2022. This will help the investors and other watch fanatics make a wise investment to fetch higher returns in the future.

Watch out for the following Rolex Trends in 2022

Demand on Fire!

This is one of the most predictable trends you can expect to last for a long time now. Rolex has frustratingly lowered its production unit to retain the market demand.

Therefore, it’s safe to assume that watch lovers and collectors will willingly pay any amount for Rolex of their choice.

This, in turn, will exceed the prices on the pre-owned market. Also, this is one of the best times to invest in a typical Rolex watch.

Rolex will go Red

People love Rolex’s blue and green dials. But what will be new in 2022 is Rolex freely experimenting with other bright hues like red & yellow as collectors seek a bold look.

Few collections like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual might steer the attention towards the ‘RED’ dial colour.

Collaborations for the Win!

Now, this is a significant trendsetter this season. Watchmakers extend hands for collaborations with celebrities, watch media, retailers, and even other renowned watchmakers.

With the recent buzz regarding Patek Philippe x Tiffany & Co’s ‘Nautilus’ collection, perhaps Rolex will emerge with a similar one this year.

Now, it’s only a matter of time till Rolex drops such bombarding news. Till then, if you’re amongst those lucky folks who had smartly invested in a Rolex, then this is the best time to sell your Rolex to reliable watch buyers in London. You’ll be amazed at the offered price, and the craze people share for the brand.
